SHANE WHEATCROFT
“My ideas tend to be led by the materials I find, so I’ll start with an image, and randomly add other images until an idea starts to emerge, adding more pieces, paint, printing, found objects etc. to reinforce the final concept."
A Modern Twist to the Vintage Aesthetic
Wheatcroft snips vintage ads and editorial spreads to become the musings of the professionally photographed subjects in his art. Piecing together various elements, he creates collages and assemblages that mesh together to perfectly illustrate a story within his work.
The source from his collage materials derives from a growing assortment of aged magazines, antiquated books, stamps, and any intriguing paper objects he could come across. Experiencing John Stezaker's art was a monumental moment in which inspired him to discover the realm of collage.
His artwork has gone on to be displayed in various galleries such as Below 65 Gallery in Maidstone, Playhouse Theatre in London, and Wooden Box Gallery in Ramsgate.
The Amazing Women stamp set seeks direct inspiration from the incredible collage artwork that Shane Wheatcroft has developed. Incorporating and seamlessly meshing together various elements, each individual stamp represents a well-known women figure or delicately designed element using his technique.
